The Foundation

Comprehensive Blood Panel

Every Full Heart Check-Up Package begins with a rigorous baseline analysis of your blood, testing beyond standard metrics to uncover hidden cardiovascular risks.

Cardiovascular Risk

The Heart

  • Lipid panel — total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides
  • ApoB — a more accurate measure of atherogenic particles than LDL alone
  • hsCRP — high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, a marker of vascular inflammation
  • Lp(a) — a genetically determined risk factor for early heart disease (tested once)

Metabolic Health

Energy & Processing

  • Fasting glucose — screens for diabetes and pre-diabetes
  • HbA1c — 3-month average blood sugar control
  • Fasting insulin / HOMA-IR — detects early insulin resistance before diabetes develops

Organ & System Function

The Support Network

  • Full blood count (FBC) — anaemia, infection, blood disorders
  • Liver function — ALT, AST, bilirubin, albumin
  • Kidney function — creatinine, eGFR, urea
  • Thyroid function — TSH (thyroid disorders affect heart rate)
  • Calcium phosphate — bone and metabolic health
  • Uric acid — gout and cardiovascular risk marker
Beyond the Baseline

Cardiac Diagnostics

The Full Heart Check-Up Package goes beyond blood tests with 5 additional diagnostic investigations, providing a comprehensive view of your heart health.

Durations listed for each test are estimates for the procedure itself and do not include registration, preparation, or recovery time. We aim to keep your visit efficient while ensuring each test is performed safely and thoroughly — actual times may vary with individual circumstances.

Resting ECG

A quick, painless recording of your heart’s electrical activity at rest. Detects irregular rhythms, signs of a previous heart attack, chamber enlargement, and other structural changes.

Duration
5 minutes
Pain level
None

Transthoracic Echocardiogram

A real-time ultrasound that provides a moving, structural picture of your heart. Assesses heart valve function, pumping strength (ejection fraction), wall motion abnormalities, chamber sizes, and the pericardium (the sac surrounding the heart).

Duration
20–30 minutes
Radiation
None (ultrasound)

Coronary Calcium Score

A low-dose CT scan that quantifies calcified plaque in your coronary arteries. A score of zero suggests minimal plaque buildup. Higher scores correlate with increased cardiovascular risk and help guide preventive treatment decisions.

Duration
10 minutes
Contrast dye
Not required

CT Coronary Angiogram (CTCA)

A detailed CT scan using contrast dye that visualises the exact plaque buildup, narrowing, and blockages in the coronary arteries. Detects both calcified and non-calcified (soft) plaque — providing information beyond what a calcium score alone can reveal.

Duration
15–20 minutes
Contrast dye
Yes (IV injection)

Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT)

An ultrasound of the carotid (neck) arteries that measures the thickness of the arterial wall. Increased thickness is an early indicator of atherosclerosis and correlates with elevated risk of both heart attack and stroke.

Duration
15 minutes
Radiation
None (ultrasound)

Before Your Visit

How to Prepare for the Full Heart Check-Up Package

Fast for 8–10 Hours

Required for accurate blood test results. Water is fine. Avoid food, coffee, and sugary drinks from the night before.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

You may need to change into a gown for the transthoracic echocardiogram and chest electrodes. Loose-fitting clothes make this easier.

Bring Your Medication List

A complete list of current medications and supplements helps the doctor interpret your results and check for contrast dye interactions.

Avoid Caffeine on Screening Day

Caffeine can affect your heart rate and blood pressure readings. Skip your morning coffee or tea on the day of the screening.

Allow 3–4 Hours

All tests are completed in a single visit. Plan your schedule accordingly — you will not need to return.

Inform Us of Allergies

The CTCA uses intravenous contrast dye. Let us know in advance if you have any known contrast or iodine allergies, or if you have kidney problems.

Common Questions

Full Heart Check-Up Package FAQ

What is included in the Full Heart Check-Up Package?

The Full Heart Check-Up Package ($1,768 NETT, inclusive of 9% GST) includes a consultation with Dr Paul Lim, comprehensive blood tests (lipid panel, ApoB, hsCRP, Lp(a), fasting glucose, HbA1c, fasting insulin/HOMA-IR, FBC, liver function, kidney function, thyroid, calcium phosphate, uric acid), a resting ECG, transthoracic echocardiogram, coronary calcium score CT, CT coronary angiogram (CTCA), a carotid intima-media thickness ultrasound (CIMT), and a post-screening review with Dr Paul Lim to discuss results.

Where is the Full Heart Check-Up Package available?

The Full Heart Check-Up Package is available at our Orchard (Camden) clinic only, as it includes CT calcium score and CT coronary angiography — performed at the ATA Medical suite adjacent to the clinic. Our Jurong clinic offers the Basic and Plus packages.

How long does the Full Heart Check-Up Package take?

The Full Heart Check-Up Package is completed in a single clinic visit of approximately 3–4 hours. All tests — blood work, ECG, cardiac and carotid imaging, calcium score, and CT coronary angiography — are done under one roof. Results are reviewed with your doctor within 7 working days.

What is a CT coronary angiogram (CTCA)?

A CT coronary angiogram (CTCA) is a specialised CT scan that uses contrast dye to create detailed images of the coronary arteries — the blood vessels that supply your heart muscle. It can detect narrowing, blockages, and plaque buildup (both calcified and non-calcified) without the need for catheter-based angiography. The scan takes approximately 15–20 minutes.

What is the difference between a calcium score and a CTCA?

A coronary calcium score is a non-contrast CT scan that measures only calcified plaque and gives a numerical score. A CTCA uses contrast dye and provides a detailed anatomical picture of the coronary arteries, detecting both calcified and non-calcified (soft) plaque as well as any narrowing or blockages. The Full Heart Check-Up Package includes both tests for the most complete assessment.

What is carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT)?

CIMT is an ultrasound measurement of the thickness of the inner two layers (intima and media) of the carotid arteries in your neck. Increased thickness is an early marker of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and correlates with increased risk of heart attack and stroke. It is a painless, non-invasive test that takes about 15 minutes.

Can I add a Holter monitor to the Full Heart Check-Up Package?

Yes. A 24-hour Holter monitor is not part of the standard Full Heart Check-Up Package but can be added on request. A resting ECG captures only a few seconds of heart rhythm, whereas a Holter continuously records your heart’s electrical activity over 24 hours and can detect intermittent arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation. Holter monitor fees are listed on our cardiology fees page and are billed separately.

How should I prepare for the Full Heart Check-Up Package?

Fast for 8–10 hours before your appointment (water is fine). Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a list of your current medications and any previous medical reports. Avoid caffeine on the morning of your screening. Allow 3–4 hours for the complete visit.

Is the Full Heart Check-Up Package suitable for everyone?

The Full Heart Check-Up Package is suitable for most adults. However, the CTCA involves contrast dye and a small radiation dose, so it may not be recommended for individuals with known contrast allergy, significant kidney impairment, or during pregnancy. Your doctor will review your medical history and advise if any adjustments are needed.
